Integrated Flood Hazard Vulnerability Modeling of Neluwa (Sri Lanka) Using Analytical Hierarchy Process and Geospatial Techniques

This research aimed to apply the geospatial techniques and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) approach find vulnerable areas in terms of flooding Neluwa area, Sri Lanka. The study incorporated nine relevant criteria for vulnerability classification under three sub-criteria; built environment, physical socio-economic environment. Under road networks buildings were chosen as sub-criteria. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), slope, elevation, water bodies, stream density taken criteria. Land use population considered All are set correctly raster data, their contents well adduced. consisted different levels combinations processes. analytical results reveal that 14.24% 30.24% total area at a very-high risk high flooding, respectively. Only 5.17% land was classified risk-free area. Eastern, central, western divisions highly floods due low slopes. Based on produced maps, spatial extents systematically identified. Data obtained through qualitative judgments related field validated based used. potential this is effective assessing these flood-affected areas. Using such model-based will be constructive identifying flood scenarios providing remunerative guideline anticipatory measures better land-based planning
